By default only administrators can shadow other user’s sessions. If you want to give permission to all of your users to shadow other users, do the following:
Step 1:
On Xenapp server, open terminal services configuration, double click on ICA-tcp(on right hand side), security tab, select remote desktop users group, advanced, choose remote desktop users group, click edit, and check the box remote control.
Step 2:
Create a policy, open the policy properties, select User Workspace\Shadowing.
The Farm Metric Server is a MetaFrame CPS(Citrix Presentation Server) server that is selected to correlate all farm metrics and server events as it relates to the entire farm. Currently, the only farm metric that is available is the application count for applications. Valid server events that are identified by the Farm Metric Server are server down, server up, metric green, metric red and metric yellow. Every time a server goes down or comes up, the Farm Metric Server is notified.
When you administrate servers running Windows Server 2000 or 2003, one of the most frustrating experiences is when sessions get cut off but the server still thinks they are active. You’ll get this error message, which you are sure to encounter at some point:
The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections.
You can help prevent this from happening by setting a policy on the server to automatically disconnect when idle.
I ran into a problem where I was trying to uninstall XenApp5 from my Windows 2008 server. The uninstall process initially gather’s information about the application installed, and then an error message pops up and kicks off your RDP session, or it simply can’t uninstall XenApp
Essentially you need to open command prompt, browse to the directory where your source mps.msi file is. I copied the source CD to the server so it’s C:\Installs\XA50_WS2008_EN\XenApp Server\w2k8 then type the command:
XenApp 5 is designed to bring world-class application delivery to Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 and optimize and enhance the Microsoft platform. To learn more about XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003, see CTX113699 and CTX116622.
Below are the new features and benefits added in XenApp 5.
Citrix XenApp 5 introduces more than 50 new major enhancements! Some of the most prominent are IPv6 communications, preferential load balancing, and application monitoring utilizing EdgeSight technology.
Session prelaunch and session linger The session prelaunch and session linger features help users quickly access applications by starting sessions before they are requested (session prelaunch) and keeping application sessions active after a user closes all applications (session linger). These features are supported for Server OS machines only.
By default, session prelaunch and session linger are not used. A session starts (launches) when a user starts an application and remains active until the last open application in the session closes.
Unregister the service using the previous instructions.
Copy the files ctxxmlss.txt, clm.dll, wpnbr.dll to the \Inetpub\Scripts folder. ***(If you are running MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 then the clm.dll file is no longer needed).***
If you are running MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 or Citrix Presentation Server 4.0, locate the file ctxadmin.dll and copy it to a folder called ctxadmin under \Inetpub\Scripts.
If you are running Citrix Presentation Server 4.0, locate the files ctxconfproxy.
The system requirements in this topic are valid when this product version released. System requirements components not covered in this topic (such as StoreFront, host systems, receivers and plug-ins, and Provisioning Services) are described in their respective documentation.
Important: Review the Prepare to install topic before beginning an installation.
Unless otherwise noted, the component installer deploys software prerequisites automatically (such as .NET and C++ packages) if they are not detected on the machine.
Zones within Citrix infrastructures are logical segments within a Citrix farm. Every zone has a data collector (described in the next paragraph). Servers in a zone will communicate with his zone data collector where the data collectors of every zone will exchange information which each other about his zones.
When determine the needs for zones and the amount of zones used the following considerations:
Available bandwidth When there is limited bandwidth available the traffic between the servers within one zone can be too much for the network link.
Application Streaming Application streaming simplifies application delivery to users by virtualizing applications on client devices. Administrators can install and configure an application centrally and deliver it to any desktop on demand.
Use the application streaming feature to install and configure an application on one file server in your App Hub, publish the application using the XenApp publishing wizard, and deliver it to any desktop or server on demand. To upgrade or patch an application, you make the updates only in the location where you stored the application.
